Metro Concrete Restoration (MCR) is a division within Metro Testing + Engineering Ltd. located in Burnaby, British Columbia.  MCR is a multifaceted concrete restoration company that focuses on challenging infrastructure projects suited to the skills and expertise of the company’s core group. The founders of MCR came from a highly technical background of materials testing and engineering, which includes 30+ years of experience of assessing deteriorated and deficient structures and designing complex repairs to rehabilitate them. This knowledge base translates into providing concrete restoration and strengthening services that are typically outside a traditional general contractor’s scope of services.  MCR typically prepares cost estimates for high profile clients like Metro Vancouver (and other local municipalities), BC Hydro, BC Ferries and general contractors looking for a turn-key specialty contractor that they can rely on.

MCR is looking for a highly enthusiastic and skilled Estimator / Project Manager to join our team. Primarily, this position would require an individual who possesses an ability to understand complex non-traditional projects and be motivated to undertake the challenge of learning something new almost every day. This is one of the key aspects of pricing projects both realistically and competitively.  Past experience in estimation/procurement of concrete repair and restoration projects centered around commercial/industrial infrastructure would be a strong asset.

Secondary role would involve project management of projects and seeing them through to completion.

Specific areas of experience and skills required include:

  • A good understanding of general construction practices.
  • Attitude to learn and understand complex nature of interdisciplinary “one-off” projects.
  • Practical knowledge of concrete in construction, including concrete removal, form and pour and shotcrete placement.
  • Interpreting specifications and project drawings accurately.
  • Able to accurately envision the required scope of work.
  • Strong estimation and procurement skills.
  • Good understanding of risk management.
  • Effective communication and adaptability to a rapidly changing fast-paced work environment.
  • Establish environment and safe work procedures.
  • Establish and maintain project schedule and milestones
  • Manage the proper implementation of resources.
  • Monitor, manage and report project progress where necessary.
  • Submit project RFI’s and change orders.
  • Good understanding of Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs.
  • Effectively complete project close out.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in related field. (CEC, CCP, CEP, PSP, CAPM-PMI or a similar certificate that relate to project estimation, planning, procurement and/or support role to Project Managers.)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in estimating, project management / coordination role.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional leadership skills
  • The ability to travel to project sites to complete initial site reviews and project management (valid BC driver’s licence and appropriate vehicle).

Compensation:

A competitive salary will be offered with bonus potential. Salary consideration will be given based on past experience and strong leadership ability.
